JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A man has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after being arrested for walking into a U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs office in Jackson with a holstered pistol.
A criminal complaint says Joseph Namihira was acting erratically and told to leave the VA Regional Office on Wednesday morning, but returned later with a .45 caliber pistol.
Authorities say Namihira is not a veteran and his intentions were unclear.
Police say Namihira was charged last year with shooting at his father.
The regional office processes benefits and is near the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center.
Namihira appeared Thursday in U.S. District Court in Jackson and was ordered detained pending grand jury action and a psychiatric evaluation.
His lawyer did not immediately respond to a call Friday.
