Funds available to Miss. farmers, ranchers

HATTIESBURG — HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — More than $1 million in federal dollars has been set aside for Mississippi farmers and ranchers to environmentally upgrade their properties during fiscal year 2014.

The United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting applications for projects that would improve water and air quality; build healthier soil; upgrade grazing and forest lands; conserve energy; and/or enhance organic operations.

The Hattiesburg American reports ( ) the next sign-up date for the program, known as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, is Nov. 1.
