Moss Point Man Indicted On Mayhem, Assault Charges At Vet Clinic

MOSS POINT —

MOSS POINT -- A Moss Point man arrested after authorities said he got upset at a veterinary clinic has been indicted on two charges of aggravated assault and one charge of mayhem related to an attack on a veterinarian at the Escatawpa Animal Clinic, court records show.

Stephen Martinez, 59, is accused of attempting to cause serious bodily harm to the veterinarian Feb. 16 at the Mississippi 613 clinic, when he fired a gun at the veterinarian's abdomen. The gun failed to discharge.

In addition, the indictment says Martinez the same day jumped in a 2001 Buick Regal and attempted to run over the veterinarian. Both of those incidents resulted in Martinez's indictment on two charges of aggravated assault.

The Jackson County grand jury indicted Martinez on an additional charge of mayhem because he believed he had hepatitis and spat in the veterinarian's face.

Moss Point police investigated the case.

At the time of the incident, Police Chief Keith Davis said Martinez had his dog at the business when he became "upset with what he described as poor customer service."

Martinez is facing a prison term of up to 47 years.

Martinez is out of jail on a $5,000 bond.
