Man identified in Olive Branch police shooting

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — An armed man who was shot by an Olive Branch detective earlier this week has been identified by police as 42-year-old Donald R. Parker.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/19wPVlr ) Parker is recovering at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis from the shooting.

Police say the shooting occurred about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, but stemmed from an earlier incident involving the suspect at a nearby home.

Police said that at about 1:30 p.m., the suspect later identified as Parker allegedly forced his way into a home and assaulted a man inside.

Detectives responding to the incident ordered the suspect to put down a gun, but he drew the weapon and was shot.

It was unclear whether Parker has an attorney.
