Man sentenced for leaving scene of fatal crash

GULFPORT, Miss. —

The 43-year-old man who left the scene of a crash that killed a 22-year-old woman has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The Sun Herald reports Circuit Judge John Gargiulo sentenced Willie Charles Cruso IV Monday for leaving the scene of an accident that killed Sara Dellinger White of Saucier on March 3, 2011.

Cruso admitted he was involved in a collision with two motorcycles near D'Iberville, but could not say why he walked away without offering help or trying to get help.

Assistant District Attorney Crosby Parker said Cruso pleaded guilty just before sentencing in Harrison County Circuit Court.
