Pearl hit-and-run case heads to grand jury

PEARL, Miss. — The criminal case against a 23-year-old man accused in a hit-and-run that injured a man in Pearl Monday is heading to a grand jury.

WLBT TV reports ( ) Shawn Roberts, of Pelahatchie, is charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident. He has posted $25,000 bond.

Lt. Butch Townsend with the Pearl Police Department says 49-year-old Robert Allen Fly was struck by a vehicle at 5:45 a.m. Monday on a service road off of Highway 80 east. The motorist fled the scene.

Pearl police collected evidence from the scene, including a rear view mirror that led them to Roberts' Pontiac Montana.

Fly remains in serious condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
