DWI charge against Miss. man in boat wreck

AMITE, La. — A Mississippi man is accused of operating a boat while drunk and severely injuring a 6-year-old girl in a wreck on the Natalbany River near Killian.

Anthony Domiono, 40, of Vicksburg, was booked in Tangipahoa Parish on Thursday with operating a boat while intoxicated and while two children under the age of 12 were aboard, reckless operation, and two counts of negligent injury, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.

His bond was set at $25,000, enforcement spokesman Adam Einck said in an email. He said the charges were brought after a routine blood test found an alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Domiono was released on bond. He could not be reached for comment Thursday because he has no listed phone number. It was not clear whether he had an attorney.

Domiono had four passengers and was towing two juveniles in a tube when his 22-foot ski boat slammed into a tree on the river bank June 9, Einck said in a news release.

He said the 6-year-old girl suffered severe head injuries that left her in critical condition for a while, but is now recovering out of the hospital.

Domiono's foot was broken. The five others suffered minor injuries, he said.

Einck said the second negligent injury charge involved the child's mother.

DWI and negligent injury both carry up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Reckless operation brings a $200 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
