Gulfport police: Arrest made in nightclub shooting

GULFPORT, Miss. —

Gulfport police have made an arrest in a shooting that killed Xavier Monroe near the Eclipse Lounge early Sunday morning.

The Sun Herald reports the man was taken into custody Monday and was being questioned at the police station late in the afternoon, but police declined to release his name.

The 25-year-old Monroe was shot while he and his girlfriend were leaving the club about 5:25 a.m. Sunday.

Monroe's girlfriend, Brittani Ridgeway, said they were leaving the lounge when he was struck by a stray bullet fired by someone she didn't know.
