Police charge boyfriend in death of pregnant teen

JACKSON, Miss. —

Jackson police have charged 20-year-old Octavious Morrison with capital murder in the death of his pregnant girlfriend.

Police say 17-year-old Octavia Love was seven months pregnant and the unborn fetus did not survive.

Detectives say Love was in a back bedroom Saturday afternoon with her boyfriend when a rifle was fired.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said a preliminary exam revealed the teen died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

When Morrison was first questioned by police, Officer Colendula Green tells WLBT TV Morrison said Love was playing with a rifle when it went off.

It was unclear whether Morrison has an attorney.
