More Seabees headed to Mississippi

GULFPORT, Miss. — Mississippi's congressional delegation says the Navy will relocate Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14 (NMCB) to Gulfport, Miss., from Jacksonville, Fla., effective Oct. 1.

U.S. Sens, Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and Rep. Steven Palazzo say in a news release Wednesday that the move will station more personnel at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport.

The Navy says the move will affect a dozen officer and enlisted billets. It also would also involve 31 officer and 546 enlisted selected reserve personnel.

Wicker says the decision underscores Mississippi's ability to support the county's naval forces and military readiness.

The NMCB specializes in general engineering and limited combat engineering capabilities. It conducts engineering operations in support of combat operations, in addition to disaster recovery operations and contingency public works support during emergencies.
