Arraignment for 2 indicted after bomb found

GULFPORT, Miss. —

Two men who were arrested after authorities found a bomb in a car at a state prison in Leakesville are scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Gulfport.
 
Federal court papers show John Harberson, of Carriere, and Scott Jenkins Waits, of McHenry, were arrested after officers at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution found a pipe bomb in a vehicle June 1.
 
They were indicted Tuesday on two counts each of making and possessing a destructive device. Waits was charged with being a user of controlled substances in possession of firearms.
 
Harberson allegedly told agents he and Waits built pipe bombs before and he forgot one was in the car when Harberson and a woman went to visit an inmate.
 
Corrections officials say they don't believe the bomb was intended for the prison.
 
Harberson had driven Robin Denell Baker, 43, of Gulfport, to visit an inmate, authorities say.
 
Authorities arrested the couple on state charges of possession of an explosive device and possession of contraband at a correctional facility.
