GULFPORT, Miss. —

Two Pearl River County women have been charged with stealing more than $117,000 from a bank vault while they were tellers at a bank in Picayune.

The Sun Herald reports Vonetta Jordan was the head teller and Debra Mitchell was a teller when they took the money between April 2004 and February 2005. The bank at the time was known as Union Planters Bank. Regions Bank acquired the financial institution in June 2005.

A federal grand jury indicted Jordan, of Poplarville, on Nov. 27. She faces one count each of bank fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, and 12 counts of making false entries.

Mitchell, of Carriere, was charged with bank fraud in a bill of information filed Nov. 30.

It was unclear whether the women have attorneys.
