MCCOMB, Miss. — The city of McComb wants to acquire an unkempt neighborhood cemetery that has no apparent owner.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1h8DDCY ) that the board of selectman voted for board attorney Wayne Dowdy to apply for a title to the cemetery by eminent domain.

City Administrator Quordiniah Lockley says there is no record of ownership at the courthouse. A cemetery association has shut down.

He says the cemetery only has a handful of available gravesites left, and the city will need to work with the few who own plots in the cemetery who are still living.

The city would not own the graves or be responsible for work done to individual graves. The city would only be responsible for common areas, such as the grass and roads inside the property.
