Arrest made in Bevill slaying

HOUSTON, Miss. —

A Chickasaw County man has been charged with capital murder in the fatal stabbing of William Ray "Shorty" Bevill almost two months ago.

Chief Deputy James Meyers says 32-year-old Mitchell Gregory of Woodland Gregory was being held in the Chickasaw County Jail on Tuesday pending an initial court appearance.

Meyers says DNA evidence led investigators to Gregory.

Meyers says investigators believe the 75-year-old Bevill surprised a burglar and killed during a struggle. An autopsy showed Bevill was stabbed multiple times. Bevill's body was found April 15 after authorities were called to his home by relatives.

Meyers said the case is still under investigation.
