Woman jailed for allegedly assaulting 3-month-old

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — A 23-year-old Pascagoula woman jailed on a $1 million bond is accused of physically assaulting her 3-month-old daughter, resulting in critical injuries to the infant.

The Sun Herald reports ( ) Pascagoula police launched an investigation Saturday after receiving a report from Singing River Hospital's emergency room about an infant brought to them for treatment who had suffered injuries consistent with physical abuse. Sgt. Calvin Hutchins says the infant's grandmother had apparently brought the child to the hospital for treatment.

Hutchins say police later determined the infant's mother, Erica Folmer, was responsible for the injuries. Police went to Folmer's home and found her sitting in a car outside of her Pascagoula apartment complex.

She was charged with aggravated child abuse. It was unclear whether Folmer has an attorney.
