‘Remember When’ touches a sentimental 60 years

The first fall show of the year, Chapter No. 198 of “Remember When” will air this air today on radio station AM-1390 WMER. The show will be heard from 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Station manager Mike Glass said that the radio special will feature two memorable stories that will include some musical and entertainment legends like radio and band pioneers “Red” Stanton of Robertsdale, Ala., and the late Karmit H. Kea, of Louisville and Meridian. An interview will be shared by host Carl Fitzgerald, which was taped in 1973.

“We will also share a memorial salute to the late William Earl “Bill” Collins, who died in Meridian last week,” said Fitzgerald. Collins was once a member of Stanton’s “Alabama Jubilee Boys” who performed on local radio and also were regular performers at the American Legion in Meridian.

A second story feature will cover some business history on a Meridian packing company of the 1940’s and ‘50’s as well as some other businesses, and will feature a 1994 interview with the late J.E. “Jim” Whitlock, who was a senior citizen of 88 when the taping was done. Radio veteran Noel Adcock will provide some traditional gospel, country and bluegrass music for the show. The phone number to the show is (601) 693-9637 (WMER). “Remember When” is a copyrighted feature of Carl Fitzgerald, who created the show in 1983.
