One man has been charged in a kidnapping/statutory rape case that began as a missing person's report.
Charles Lee Hughes and Greg Wolfenbarger are currently being held in the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Center in Meridian. Hughes is charged with kidnapping and Wolfenburger is charged with kidnapping and statutory rape in a case that involves a girl younger than 16 years old.
Initially, the girl was reported missing recently but as law enforcement authorities began running down leads in that case it was discovered much more had happened.
"The victim was returned to her family and did not require any medical attention," said Ward Calhoun, chief deputy with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. "She was not forced to leave but it is unlawful to take a juvenile without the permission of the parents."
Calhoun said the investigation is ongoing in this case and added more people could be charged in connection with this incident.
