The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate a shooting that left one man injured late Saturday night.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said the shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Will Wright Road.

"An individual was driving to a residence when he realized he was being followed," Calhoun said. "As the victim turned into the driveway of the residence the vehicle pulled up and (someone inside the car) shot multiple times at the victim."

Ward said the man was struck twice, once in the lower back and once in the leg.

"The victim's vehicle was struck five times," Calhoun said. "Eventually the victim fled from his vehicle and went into the residence. Investigators collected evidence from the scene and are continuing to investigate the shooting. We do not believe this shooting was random. We think the victim and the suspect knew one another."

The injured man was treated at a Meridian hospital and released. The suspect's vehicle was described as a silver or gold Chevrolet Caprice.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department at 601-482-9700 or Crimestoppers at 855-485-8477.
