Man shot in attempted car theft

MERIDIAN —     A man was shot in the back Thursday night after he was attacked by two young men attempting to steal his car, according to the Meridian Police Department.

    The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of 9th Avenue.

    According to a police report, two young black males wearing hooded jackets and bluejeans attacked the man as he got out of his car to go into his home. The attackers' faces were covered, the witness told police.

    "They attempted to rob the man of his car but were unsuccessful and shot the man once in the back as they fled the scene on foot," the report states.

    The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was released shortly afterwards.

    A police investigation of the shooting is underway.

    Police also reported burglaries of homes Thursday in the 200 block of 25th Avenue; the 600 block of 57th Avenue; and the 3400 block of 13th Street. Also Thursday night, a burglary of a business occurred in the 3700 block of 7th Street and a car was broken into in the 3700 block of Valley Road.
