MPD investigate armed robbery at shopping center

MERIDIAN —     Meridian police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Monday evening in the parking lot of a local shopping center.

    According to Lt. Dean L. Harper, chief of detectives, Criminal Investigations Division, two subjects were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of College Park at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

    "The two victims were riding through (the parking lot) when they were flagged down by a black male, who distracted them while another black male came up on the other side of the car and robbed them at gunpoint before fleeing," Harper said.

    The armed suspect also is described as wearing a multicolored jacket and being between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet, and weighing about 150 pounds.

    "He fled with the other suspect in a small silver car," Harper said.

    No one was injured in the incident. Police are continuing their investigation.
