Deputies nab two young burglars

MERIDIAN —     A Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department deputy was surprised to find while investigating an apparent burglary in progress that his suspects were way younger than those he normally takes into custody.

    The suspects are 7 and 12 years old.

    LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said Tuesday afternoon that Central Dispatch received a 911 call that someone in the Valley Road Trailer Park observed a person climbing into a window of a nearby mobile home. When the deputy arrived on the scene at about 12:30 p.m. he found the two youngsters inside the home.

    "The two are siblings," said Calhoun. "The 7-year-old is too young for juvenile court and the Department of Human Services was notified as was the parent of the children. The 12-year-old will be processed through the juvenile center."

    Calhoun said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
