Mayor Percy Bland believes in Meridian and its people.

That is why he is excited about the upcoming Workforce Development Job Fair that will be Saturday, November 9, in Meridian.

"This event will help people to become skilled workers," said Bland during a press conference Wednesday at Meridian City Hall. "This is a new effort, a new program, that will help local residents get enrolled in apprenticeship programs. This means the improvement of workers in Meridian which is important to new businesses who are looking at locating here."

The Job Fair, sponsored by the Workforce Alliance Partnership which includes Mississippi Power, is an informational session that is open to everyone, Bland said. The basic requirements are that people who want to enroll must have  a high school diploma or GED, pass a drug test and attend an upcoming training class for safety.

The Job Fair will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center, which is located at 544 James Chaney Drive in Meridian.

The Job Fair is also sponsored by Central Mississippi Building and Construction, Gulf Coast Building and Trade Council, The Ministerial Alliance, and community action agencies and community alliance partners.
