Woman charged in recent drug bust

MERIDIAN — By Brian Livingston

Meridian Police Department authorities have charged a woman in connection with a drug bust that occurred last week that yielded almost 1,000 pills.

MPD Lt. John Griffith, executive officer for the department, said Thursday afternoon that Jacquewisa M. Russell, 35, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of hydrocodone with intent, and possession of Alazopram with intent. Russell has a combined bond of $25,000 for all three charges.

On October 25, around 1:30 p.m., Griffith said a DART (Direct Action Response Team) officer patrolling in the Highland Park area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Russell. The officer was able to get permission to search the vehicle and uncovered a treasure trove of various illegal narcotics.

Among the narcotics seized were hydrocodone, ecstasy, Xanax, Serquile and liquid MDMA. In all, Griffith said there were 965 pills confiscated from the vehicle. There was also a .380 semi-automatic handgun and a large knife collected during the search.

Griffith said the street value for the pills would be about $8,000.  The MPD's Narcotics Division also seized two cars from this arrest.
