MERIDIAN —     Meridian Police Department authorities are investigating two shooting incidents over the weekend.

MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said detectives have a suspect in custody in connection with a Saturday evening shooting at Frankberry Court Apartments on Eighth Street. Harper said a woman was hit in the calf by a bullet around 7:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was not the target of the shooter and was shot accidentally, according to Harper. Harper said the wound was not serious.

Harper said the investigation is continuing and no formal charges have been made.

In another incident, early Saturday morning police responded to a nightclub in downtown Meridian to reports of multiple shots being fire. The shooting occurred, according to Harper, at the nightclub located in the 2300 block of Fifth Street. Harper said although no one was reportedly hit by any of the bullets, two cars and a nearby business were struck by bullets.

Police placed one person into custody at the scene and Harper said the investigation is ongoing.

Friday, MPD authorities charged two men in connection with allegedly stealing a car.

Harper said Richard B. Bridges, 23, and 20-year-old James L. Salisbury, both of Meridian, have been charged with motor vehicle theft. Harper said these charges stem from an incident reported Thursday morning from 56th Avenue. Both for both men was set at $15,000 each.
