Winging set for Friday at NAS Meridian

    There will be a naval aviator designation ceremony Friday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at NAS Meridian.

    Twelve U.S. Navy and Marine Corps will receive "Wings of Gold" during the ceremony.

    "The naval aviator designation ceremony is not prescribed specifically by U.S. Navy regulations, but has emerged as an honored product of the rich heritage of naval tradition," according to an NAS Meridian press release. "It marks the culmination of nearly two years of specialized training, which has prepared these officers for the rigorous demands of aerial combat and carrier operations -- earning each the title of 'Naval Aviator' and the right to wear the coveted 'Wings of Gold.'"

    Capt. Brian Goszkowicz, Commander, Training Air Wing One, will be the speaker.    

    Those earning "Wings of Gold" include:

    Lt. j.g. Joseph Anderson, USN, who carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on Sept. 18. Anderson completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Nine:

    Capt. Matthew Andrews, USMC, who had prior military service: 2006-2009 Corporal, USMC, Bulk Fuel Specialist; 2010-2011 First Lt., USMC, Infantry Officer/Platoon Commander with Alpha Co., 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, Operation Enduring Freedom. He was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training and earned three Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training. He carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Oct. 31. Andrews completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Ensign Sean Cawley, USN, who was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training. He earned four Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Nov. 1. Cawley completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Nine;

    • First Lt. Adam Chase, USMC, who was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training. He earned one Navy "E" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Oct. 31. Chase completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Lt. j.g. Samuel Deedy, USN, who carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Dec. 10. Deedy completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Ensign Russell Fertitta, Jr., USN, who earned four Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Nov. 1. Fertitta completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Ensign Michael Jendrycki, USN, who was selected as VT-7's Student of the Month for July 2013. During Advanced Jet Flight Training, he earned three Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Nov. 1. Jendrycki completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Lt. j.g. James Parreira, USN, who earned two Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on Sept. 18. Parreira completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven;

    • Lt. j.g. Jonathon Parry, USN, who was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training and Commodore's List with Distinction during Advanced Flight Training. He also was named VT-9's Student of the Month for May 2013. During Advanced Jet Flight Training, he earned three Navy "E's" for bombing accuracy and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on Sept. 18. Parry completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Nine;

    • Lt. j.g. Nathan Shuey, USN, who was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training and carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Nov. 1. Shuey completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Nine;

    • Ensign Daniel Weiss, USN, who was named to the Commodore's List during Primary Flight Training and earned one Navy "E" for bombing accuracy during Advanced Jet Flight Training. He carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on Oct. 31, when he was named VT-7's "Top Hook" for that carrier qualification evolution. Weiss completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Seven; and

    • Lt. j.g. Isaac Zimmerman, USN, who carrier qualified in the T-45C on board the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on Sept. 19. Zimmerman completed Advanced Jet Flight Training with Training Squadron Nine.
