Sporting Clays event set for Aug. 23-24

Fundraiser to benefit Choctaw Area Council Boy Scouts

MERIDIAN —     The Choctaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce our third annual “Sporting Clays for Character” fundraising event. This event will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 23 and 24. Scouting Executives and volunteer leaders for the event are seeking corporate sponsors to field shooting teams by participating at one of three sponsorship levels or to donate goods and services for our auction. The Council is also seeking individual shooters to participate in the two-day event.  All interested shooters are encouraged to participate, as all skill levels will be represented.

    Proceeds from the “Sporting Clays for Character” will help support the Boy Scouts of America Choctaw Area Council’s mission of Scouting in the low-income areas of East Mississippi and West Alabama. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. It is important now, more than ever, to teach young, at-risk youth to serve God and others and to keep themselves physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

    “Sporting Clays for Character” is a scored shooting tournament held at the Binachi Shooting Sports sporting clays course in Meridian. Clays will be thrown to emulate hunting situations such as rabbits, teal, doves, pheasants, and more. Teams of 4-5 people will compete in this fun and social event. The lowest score on each station will not be counted, so every team has a chance to win. Awards will be given to the top shooters and the top teams. Sporting clays is an excellent way to entertain and recruit clients, build your staff‘s morale, or spend quality time with your family while supporting the Boy Scouts of America. We are sure that you will enjoy yourself whether you are an outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hunter, occasional shooter, or new shooter!

    The event will begin Friday, August 23 at 10 a.m. with a warm-up shoot for participants at the Character, Gold and Silver sponsorship levels at the Binachi Shooting Sports facility at Camp Binachi in Meridian. This five-hour session includes lunch. 12- and 20-gauge shells will be provided to shooters for practice. Lunch will be served.

    Saturday evening, a Reception and Auction will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Northwood Country Club in Meridian. The evening will feature live and silent auctions, door prizes and live music.  We will have an awards ceremony for all teams and top shooter. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. This event is complimentary to sponsors and participants and their spouses and guests. Additional tickets may be purchased for the event for those who wish to attend.

    The main event will be held Saturday, August 24 at the Binachi Shooting Sports facility at Camp Binachi in Meridian. Team registration for the morning flight begins at 7:30 a.m., opening and orientation begins at 8:45 a.m. and the morning event starts promptly at 9 a.m. Team registration for the afternoon flight begins at 11 a.m,. opening and orientation begins at 12:30 p.m. and the afternoon event starts promptly at 1 p.m. Lunch for both flights will be served at 11:30 a.m.
