Weekend events planned

MERIDIAN —     Here are a few events scheduled for the weekend in downtown Meridian.

Heart Ball

    The Meridian Heart Ball will be held Saturday, 6:30-10 p.m., at the MSU Riley Center, 2200 Fifth St., to benefit the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

    The event will feature live entertainment by Charles “CC” Carter, silent and live auctions featuring Meridian artists, and local Meridian survivor Jolie Carle sharing her story.

'Mother's Love'

    Tickets are available for "Ain't No Love Like A Mother's Love," which is scheduled to be staged at the Temple Theater on Saturday at 8 p.m.

    The production, from Baltimore, Maryland, was written by playwright Crystal L. Bass, and is being directed by Shelly Garrett.

    The comedy stage play is inspired by Bass' book, "Dark Clouds."

Valentine's Ball

    The First Annual Valentine's Ball Extravaganza will be held at the Temple Theater Ballroom, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 for couples and $15 for singles. Formal wear is required. For advance tickets call (601) 880-6696.


    On Sunday the New York-based Aquila Theatre presents "Cyrano" at the MSU Riley Center. Frenchman Edmond Rostand's 1897 play is one of literature's best known romances and is loosely based on an actual person.

    Tickets are $21-$27. Show time is 6 p.m.
