Shooting still under investigation

MERIDIAN —     Meridian Police Department authorities are still investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday that left two people injured.

    According to MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, the shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Ninth Avenue. Two people were hit by what Harper said were about 70 rounds fired by two parties. Harper said the injuries were not life threatening.

    Harper said three cars were also hit multiple times by the gunfire. Also, one house was struck by several bullets. No motive on the shooting has been released as yet.

    Harper said one suspect is in custody, but the name has not been released as the investigation is ongoing. Harper said police expect to make additional arrests.
