Last Earth's Bounty of season today

MERIDIAN —     The last chance to stock up on fresh produce and homemade products this year at Earth's Bounty happens today at Singing Brakeman Park in downtown Meridian. And, in anticipation of the winter flu season, festival goers will have the opportunity to get their annual flu shots from Greater Meridian Health Clinic.

The GMHC flu shots, which will be administered from the clinic's RV at the festival, will cost $30. Participants can pay cash or, if their insurance covers flu shots, should bring their insurance cards, and GMHC will file the charge with the insurance provider. GMHC will also offer free dental screenings.

Farmers at the festival will be loaded up with tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and a variety of greens. Other vendors will have an array of tempting baked goods, honey, dehydrated foods, jams and jellies, salsa and numerous other homemade agricultural products.

Master pumpkin carver Kaye Thompson will make a return visit to Earth's Bounty, following her popular pumpkin-carving demonstrations during the 2012 festival. She will demonstrate her techniques from 9 a.m.-noon, giving festival goers tips on how to create their own unique pumpkin designs for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Entertainment will be provided by a local favorite, musician Al Brown, and children's activities will include a jumpy house, a slide and an obstacle course.

Fifteenth Ave Baptist Church will provide a cooling station and free water. The food concessionaire will be The White House Chef.

Earth's Bounty will be held rain or shine, unless dangerous weather forces a cancellation. In the event of rain, customers are encouraged to bring umbrellas or raincoats, so they won't miss out on the goods offered at the last festival of 2013. As always, festival hours are 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Earth's Bounty-Local, Fresher, Better will resume on the first Saturday of April 2014.
