The Meridian Star
Civitan's guest speaker Tuesday was Karen Rooney, Meridian Main Street director.
Rooney spoke about the Main Street Business Incubator program, which will eventually provide hands-on management assistance, access to financing and orchestrated exposure to critical business or technical support services such as legal, accounting, banking, marketing, PR, and administrative help. It is envisioned to offer entrepreneurial firms shared office services, access to equipment, flexible leases and expandable space - all under one roof. This program would utilize the services already in place through the EMBDC, MSU Small Business Development Center, the MS Development Authority, and the EMDC Entrepreneur Program, Mississippi Power Small Business Incentive Program, and a Realtor specializing in commercial leasing. Meridian Main Street is also working on a flow chart to guide entrepreneurs on which permits and plans are needed and who to go to get it done, in order to make it easier to start a business in Meridian.
