MERIDIAN — From staff reports

Floats, marching bands, sporty convertibles with homecoming maids and beaus, football players, cheerleaders and more will be on full display in downtown Meridian Thursday as Meridian High School celebrates homecoming.

The tradition, which spans more than 50 years, will be celebrated by students and staff throughout the week and culminates Friday with a football game at Ray Stadium and the crowning of homecoming queen.

The Meridian High School Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally will take place in downtown Meridian Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.

Meridian High School and the city of Meridian are partnering together to present the parade this year. The parade route has been adjusted so that the parade ends at City Hall. The pep rally will take place on the lawn in front of City Hall.

The parade will start on 25th Avenue in front of the Meridian Public School District Central Office. The parade will take a left on Eighth Street; right on 23rd Avenue; left on Fifth Street; left on 9th Street and then left on 23rd Street to finish up at City Hall.

Homecoming events are planned at the school all week. Monday was Professional Sports Day, with students encouraged to wear a T-shirt or jersey from their favorite NBA, MLB, NFL or other pro team.

Today is College Day and students can wear a jersey from their favorite college team.

Wednesday is Cultural Day, where students are encouraged to wear attire from different cultures around the world; and Thursday is Cartoon Day, where they can come to school dressed as their favorite cartoon character.

Friday is Wildcat Day and students will wear their 2013 MHS Homecoming T-shirts.
