Suspected burglar caught

MERIDIAN — Meridian Police Department authorities have taken into custody a man they believe burglarized a business in Meridian over the weekend.

MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Monday on Saturday the MPD's DART (Direct Action Response Team) team arrested 22-year-old Matthew B. Collins of Meridian and charged him with commercial burglary.

Harper said this charge stems from a commercial burglary that occurred on August 31 of this year where a business was broken into in the 1300 block of B Street. Over $40,000 worth of tools were recovered.

Bond for Collins was set at $25,000.

In other incidents, Harper said Friday at 4:31 p.m., police responded to a residential burglary in the area of George Reece Courts. The victim showed police where entry was made through a door and money was stolen.

Harper said police responded to another residential burglary in the 2300 block of 47th Avenue Saturday at 11:12 a.m. The owner couldn’t advise when the burglary actually took place but entry was made through a door and miscellaneous items stolen.

Harper reported a commercial burglary occurred Friday at 6:14 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Hills Street. According to the victim, entry was made through a door and miscellaneous items stolen.

All of these cases are currently under investigation. If you have information pertaining to any of these incidents you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 601-485-1860.
