A shooting Tuesday afternoon sent one person to a Meridian hospital with a gunshot wound and another to jail.
Warren Strain, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety in Jackson, said Wednesday afternoon Mary Ann Oubre, 36, of 3227 Northshore Drive in Toomsuba, has been charged with aggravated assault in the case. Strain said Oubre was taken into custody around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at an undisclosed location on Highway 11/80 by agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, a division of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Oubre was taken to the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Center in Meridian where her bond was set at $20,000. She later posted the required bond amount and is out of jail.
Strain said Willard Osborne, 67, of 6232 C. Price Road in Toomsuba was shot in the hand. He was taken to a Meridian hospital where he was treated and then released.
Strain said the shooting occurred on Highway 11/80 around 3:15 p.m. Initially, deputies of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to the call at Northshore Drive and Highway 11/80 but because the incident allegedly took place on a state highway, agents with the MBI took over the case.
Strain said the shooting was the result of a domestic altercation that escalated. Strain said a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered and has been sent to the state crime lab for analysis.
