MERIDIAN —     Several months ago Pastor of Evangel Temple Mike Boles made an announcement that the church has plans to make a feature length movie involving the end times recorded in the Bible. Today, Boles is several steps closer to making that film a reality.

“Our plans are to shoot this film on location in Meridian, Jackson, Lauderdale, and Clarke county. We will also use our sound stage at our new church facility,” Boles said.

A few days ago, two new RED brand cinema cameras, and plenty of film-making gear were delivered to the church. Boles and crew are ready to take action.

“We have already purchased the Red Epic and Scarlet digital cameras. It's exciting because these same cameras were used to shoot several big budget hollywood movies like "The Amazing Spider-Man," "The Hobbit," "The Book of Eli," and the recent faith-based film, "October Baby,” Boles said.

Boles also said that they had strong reasons on why they purchased the expensive equipment rather than renting.

“We bought them, and wanted to own them because we plan to make more movies in the future. We hope to continue this ministry in the future,” Boles said.

The film team at Evangel have reached a new stage in realizing the movie. This time, in the form of a casting call.

“We want to have auditions for many of the roles. If you're interested in being in the movie we ask that you call (601) 917-3177. Auditions will happen on Nov. 10 and Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You must call and make an appointment to audition,” Boles said.

Despite the shift in ministry, Boles hasn't lost focus on the key objective.

“This is all about winning souls for Christ. The dramas we have produced have been very successful in that, and the movie takes all of this to a new level,” Boles said.

Shooting begins the day after Thanksgiving.
