MERIDIAN —  An investigation recently at East Mississippi Correctional Facility at Lost Gap resulted in one of the correctional officers being arrested.

According to Ward Calhoun, chief deputy for the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, Kenshasa Evans, 34, has been charged with possession of drugs in a correctional facility. Evans was placed on $15,000 bond.

Calhoun said earlier this week officials with Management and Training Corporation (MTC), the company that oversees the prison, launched an investigation based on tips they received that Evans was allegedly bringing drugs into the prison. As a result of their investigation, Calhoun said on Wednesday agents with the East Mississippi Drug Task Force were called in to assist.

Using information reportedly obtained by MTC officials and agents with the EMDTF, Evans was taken into custody late Wednesday.

Her case will be presented to the next available grand jury for indictment consideration.
