What started out for deputies of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department as a search for a missing person turned into a successful drug operation for agents of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force.
LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun said Thursday James C. Rigdon, 39 of 7729 Highway 45 North, was charged in the operation that also saw at least two other people taken into custody by task force agents. Rigdon was charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
Rigdon, who was already out on bail for a previous, undisclosed offense, had his bond request denied and is currently being held in the Lauderdale County jail in Meridian.
Calhoun said at around 6 p.m. Wednesday, LCSD deputies acting on a tip resounded to a Meridian hotel where they found the person reported missing and discovered illegal narcotics while there. Deputies called in agents with the drug task force and arrested Rigdon and two other people.
Calhoun said so far Rigdon is the only one charged with drug offenses but that charges may be filed against for the two others in custody at the Lauderdale County Jail depending on the result of an ongoing investigation.
