MERIDIAN —     Do you have what it takes to be an X FACTOR?

If so, you may be one of four local contestants to audition for the television singing competition created by former "American Idol" judge Simon Crowell – courtesy of Meridian's FOX 30 TV.

Local auditions for Season 3 of "THE X FACTOR" are currently under way. For the third consecutive year, FOX 30 is sending up to four contestants to audition in front of the show's producers.

"The audition passes puts them ahead of everybody; they won't have to stand in line with all of those tens of thousands of people in the stadium," said Janie Brown, promotions director at FOX 30.

Winners from the local auditions will receive an armband, guaranteeing them at least one meet with the show's producers at the New Orleans, La., auditions in April, Brown said.

One local winner will be selected from each of four categories: Female, ages 12-29; Male, ages 12-29; Duo/Group; and Adults, ages 30-plus.

“We have so many extremely talented vocal artists in our area. We want to see them live out their dreams of success in the music business, and this is one way we can help make their dreams come true,” FOX 30 Station Owner Mike Reed said.

Reed added that the station has simplified its local audition process. To audition, interested singers should submit a video or audio recording by email to: xfactoraudition@wgbctv.com no later than noon, March 22. Audition videos or audio recordings may also be hand delivered or mailed to: FOX 30 Television Studio at: 1151 Crestview Circle, Meridian, MS  39301, Attn: X Factor Audition.

Once the audition is received, FOX 30 will choose up to 16 finalists (four from each category) to perform at the MSU Riley Center on April 4 at 6 p.m. Those finalists will compete for the Top 4 spots in front of a panel of judges and a live audience.

“We are anticipating another outstanding competition.” Reed said. “Every year we think it can’t get any better, and every year it does!”

FOX 30 will pay part of the four Meridian finalists' way to the competition in New Orleans.

“There are thousands of hopefuls trying to get an audition with the producers at each of the audition sites, and with only four audition venues across the country scheduled, the FOX 30 Local Audition Pass gives them a leg up because it guarantees that no matter how many people arrive to tryout, the ones with the Audition Pass will audition in front of an X Factor producer," Reed said.

"From there, well, that is completely up to them," he said. "And with a $5 million recording contract at stake, the competition is sure to bring out the best of the best.”
