The Price Is Right, Live! at Pearl River Resort

MERIDIAN —     “You mean I get the chance to play Plinko in Philadelphia, Mississippi?” That’s what 73 year old Edith Johnson from Cuba, Ala., said with excitement as she heard the news that The Price is Right, Live! would take place at the Pearl River Resort on select dates in May.

Johnson, who has been a fan of the television show for more than 40 years, made plans to attend the touring version with her granddaughter. The two attended last week’s show, where Johnson won $10 in BonusBets from Pearl River Resort.     “Even though I didn’t get called to ‘Come on Down!’ we still had a lot of fun and I got to see a young lady play my most favorite game [Plinko],” Johnson said.

The live version of America’s most popular game show boasts many of the same aspects of the television show, including the Big Wheel and Cliffhanger games. Unlike the TV version, the Price Is Right, Live! show calls four new contestants after each bidding session, allowing for more opportunities for audience members to win.

Special prizes are also offered in between bidding sessions, making the show more inclusive and interactive for all.

George Gray, announcer for the televised show, hosts the live version, and keeps the crowd entertained. Mark Anderson, who traveled with four friends from Birmingham, Ala., to watch the show, describes the event as high-energy and upbeat.

“We thought we would be the youngest group there," Gray said. "I was surprised with just how big and diverse of a turnout showed up. I guess the Price Is Right is a favorite across the generations.”

The touring live show, created in honor of 40 years on television, boasts prizes like roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas, spa gift cards, and even a new car.

Audience members must purchase a ticket and register to be a contestant prior to show time, each boasting the well-known yellow name tag. Tickets cost between $20 and $30 dollars, depending on the night of the show, and are available from Ticketmaster and Pearl River Resort. The show concludes this weekend, and is held in the convention center at the Silver Star Resort and Casino.
