Area fireworks displays celebrating the 238th anniversary of the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain are planned.
The annual Pat Harrison Waterway District fireworks display at Archusa Water Park in Quitman is tonight at 9 p.m. There is a $5 per car entry fee. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase.
The city of Livingston, Ala., will host its annual fireworks show Friday beginning at sundown at Lake LU, located on Country Club Road at the Civic Center.
Live music, food and fireworks are a few festivities planned for Meridian's annual July 4 celebration Friday at Bonita Lakes Recreation Area.
Gates open at 3:30 p.m. Parking will be available at the upper and lower lakes on a first-come, first-served basis until parking spaces are full. Parking will also be available in the Office Max area. A free shuttle service will be provided from Office Max to Bonita Lakes beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Napoleon and Love Under Cover will take to the stage at 7 p.m.
"This is a great band that sings an array of music from R&B, Southern Soul, down-home Blues and classic Motown," Meridian Cultural Affairs Coordinator Casey Null said. "There will be something for everybody."
The fireworks kick off at 9 p.m. Food vendors will be on hand. Residents are encouraged to bring lounge chairs or blankets to sit on.
"It is going to be a great family event," Null said.
The lower lake at Bonita Lakes Recreation area will be open all day Thursday, but will close to regular park activities on Friday. The upper lake will close Thursday so preparations can be made for the fireworks show and will reopen at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Pearl River Resort will also host its annual July 4 fireworks display at 9 p.m. on Friday.
