Corps supports wear your life jacket to work day

MERIDIAN —     VICKSBURG — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is partnering with the National Safe Boating Council in support of the Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day scheduled for today.

The annual event, hosted by the National Safe Boating Council serves as a fun, educational element a day prior to the beginning of National Safe Boating Week, May 17-23, the official launch of the 2014 North American Safe Boating Campaign.

Educating the boating public about the safety and comfort of life jackets has been a main focus of the North American Safe Boating Campaign.

According to the National Safe Boating Council, life jacket wear is the simplest strategy to stay safe while boating, fishing, paddling and more. The North American Safe Boating Campaign is a yearlong effort in the U.S. and Canada that focuses on spreading the message of boating safety and the critical importance of consistent life jacket wear each and every time on the water.

The National Safe Boating Council represents over 330 U.S. and Canadian organizations committed to reducing boating accidents and enhancing the boating experience. Visit SafeBoatingCouncil.org for safe boating resources.

Members of the boating public as well as those interested in showing the wearability of life jackets are encouraged to participate. More information about the event and safe boating is available at www.Facebook.com/ReadySetWearIt.
