Police report several weekend armed robberies, major arrests

MERIDIAN —    Several armed robberies and major arrests were among weekend incidents reported by the Meridian Police Department.

    According to Capt. Dean L. Harper,

chief of detectives for the Criminal Investigations Division, on Sunday at 3:40 p.m., a man selling produce in the 1900 block of 10th Avenue was robbed at gunpoint by a small-framed black male, who fled on foot after the incident.

    The victim was uninjured, Harper said.

     Also on Sunday at 9:39 p.m., two men were robbed in their home in the 300 block of 60th Avenue. According to the victims, a black male knocked on their back door and when they opened it, he came in and assaulted them with a pistol and stole their money before fleeing on foot.

    The robbed men received minor injuries, Harper said.

     Saturday at 3:15 p.m., a woman reported to police that she had been robbed at gunpoint by two black males who she had given a ride.

    The woman said they were traveling in the area of 22nd Avenue and 22nd Street when both men attacked her in her car, pulling a handgun and grabbing the steering wheel, causing her to wreck the car. The men fled the scene on foot.

    The woman received minor injuries.

     Police made the following arrests:

    • Ian M. Fortenberry, 19, of Philadelphia was charged with aggravated assault. Authorities had been searching for Fortenberry since last month after his two co-defendants were arrested for this same charge.

    Bond was set at $200,000.    

    • Anderson J. Nash, 54, of Meridian was charged with aggravated assault. The arrest stems from a shooting incident on Ninth Avenue Thursday night in which a man was shot in the leg.

    Bond was set at $50,000.

    The victim is recovering from his wound.

    • Sean E Vicini, 24, of Acworth, Ga., was charged with felony shoplifting. Bond was set at $10,000.

     • Steven L. Smith, 28, of Louisville was charged with receiving stolen property. Bond was set at $20,000.

    • Cornelius Kincaid, 20, of Lena was charged with receiving stolen property.

    Bond was set at $20,000.
