Main Street schedules open house

MERIDIAN —     The work to revitalize downtown Meridian will be celebrated Thursday when Meridian Main Street hosts its annual open house.

John McClure, executive director, said the public is encouraged to attend the event, which begins at 5 p.m. at the office at 2120 Main St.

"We will celebrate the successes that we've had over the last year," McClure said. "We want to thank our sponsors and volunteers that made things happen. We'll be announcing our program of work for the upcoming year.

They will also recognize people with awards, he said, and they will unveil and distribute Main Street's annual report.

"It's going to be bigger and better than last year," McClure said.

The work of Main Street, which has a small staff, would not be possible without its volunteers, he said.

"To have an effective downtown revitalization program takes a lot of people pulling together to make it work," McClure said. "You can't do the kind of ambitious things we plan to do without strong volunteer support and we've been blessed with some really great folks. We also have members and our sponsors who help pay the bills."
