Young girl finds niche in classical ballet

MERIDIAN — For 10-year-old  Elsa Hritz, having previously tried many activities to find her niche, she quickly realized that classical ballet was her passion while enrolled in Meridian Community College’s Continuing Education Classical Ballet class.

Having taken ballet for six years, Elsa flourished at a young age in classical ballet.

“Former ballet teachers told me how much more focused Elsa was in her ballet classes for a child her age,” her mother, Mary Hritz, said. “I knew we might be on to something.”

Elsa recently received a notification of acceptance to the annual Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive that begins next month in New York City.     Admission to the program is competitive and by audition only. Within two weeks of auditioning in Dallas, Elsa had received the call that she had made it into the program.

The annual Bolshoi Prep Intensive in NYC is designed to provide expert training for serious ballet students ages 9 to 12 through unique instruction under master teachers from the

Bolshoi Ballet Academy.

The workshop is a rigorous ballet training program and is specifically designed for students to achieve individual progress through a focus on the clarity of technique, increased strength, and greater musicality. The program is perfectly suited for younger dancers desiring the unmatched training opportunity of Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teachers, according to an MCC press release.

“As far as the auditions go, I had never seen anything like it,” Mary Hritz said. “The talent level of all the kids, that were also there to audition, was overwhelming — as far as how good they all were — it was unbelievable.”    --
