Lauderdale County Supervisors attend conference on coast

MERIDIAN —    County officials have joined their colleagues from around the state for four days of educational workshops on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors hosts the conference every year to provide opportunities for board of supervisors to exchange ideas and to learn of new laws that will affect their constituents.

Joe Norwood, District 4 supervisor of Lauderdale County, said he and three other board members, Wayman Newell, District 2; Josh Todd, District 3; and Kyle Rutledge, District 5 are attending the conference that began Monday. District 1 Supervisor Hank Florey is not attending.

"This is where we change over leadership and attend conferences. We will be brought up to date on the new laws that the Legislature has passed," Norwood said. "Usually the governor is there, usually our auditor is there. We will talk about the changes that government will face over the next year."

An MAS mid-winter conference is typically held in January, an educational conference is held in October, Norwood said.

The conference ends on Thursday night.
