Special to The Star
The Meridian Star
If you’ve been thinking about going back to school to get your MBA, then you are in luck.
A workshop for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), the standardized test required for acceptance into graduate business programs at most universities and colleges in the United States, will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at MSU-Meridian.
“This is the third time a Saturday GMAT workshop that will be held at MSU-Meridian,” said Dr. Natasha Randle, co-coordinator of the workshop and associate professor of management at MSU-Meridian.
The MSU-Meridian Division of Business will host the workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 008 at the College Park Campus. The fee, which is $50 for MSU Meridian students and $60 for all other participants, will cover the cost of the study guide manual, materials for the workshop and lunch. Deadline to register is Monday, Nov. 26.
“Taking the GMAT, which is a computer-based test, can be extremely stressful,” Randle said. “Our goal for this workshop is to reduce anxiety for those taking the exam and help them work toward increasing their overall score.”
Presenters at the workshop will be Dr. Lin Ge, assistant professor of mathematics/statistics at MSU-Meridian, who will cover the quantitative portion of the GMAT and Dr. James Kelley, associate professor of English at MSU-Meridian, who will lead discussions on preparing for the verbal/writing portion.
“The test format is often considered rigorous and many people get discouraged,” she added, “but we believe this workshop will help students in their test preparation. It is important that anyone planning to take the exam familiarize themselves with the format, time constraints and specific focus of each section, and practice, practice, practice.”
In Mississippi, the GMAT is given year-round at testing centers at Mississippi State University Starkville, Jackson and other locations around the state.
