A man who had several outstanding warrants for his arrest was caught Monday morning after a short vehicle and foot pursuit.
Antonio Dwayne Hearn, who was wanted for offenses filed with the Meridian Police Department and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, was apprehended in the 600 block of Manning Street around 10 a.m. He was taken to the MPD for processing and a hold was placed on him with the LCSD.
Lauderdale County jail records show that Hearn was initially charged with the possession of schedule II, III, IV, and V drugs. Hearn was placed on $10,000 bond. More charges were expected to be filed against Hearn today.
At about 9:15 a.m., a MPD patrol unit on Highway 11 South near the Meridian Regional Airport tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Hearn was driving. Hearn sped away from the officer who chose not to pursue due to safety concerns for the area motorists. But the officer was able to notify other units in the area and observed Hearn's vehicle turn west on First Avenue.
MPD units were able to cut off several blocks in the area Hearn's vehicle was last seen and found his vehicle abandoned. A foot search was conducted and Hearn was found near one of the homes in the 600 block of Manning Street. He was taken into custody without further incident.
