Roads to close for ‘super loads’

MERIDIAN —     Weather permitting, next week Burkhalter Rigging will move four large loads along a designated route from Bigbee Valley at Highway 388 to the Kemper County Power Plant site on Highway 493.

    Sections of roads along the route will be closed beginning at noon on Monday and Tuesday. All roads will be reopened by 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

    Each of the "super loads" will be 18 feet wide,  21 feet high, 132 feet long and weigh over 201 tons, the press release states.

    "Each load will be transported by a truck and trailer with 22 axles. Crews will temporarily close sections of Highway 388, Highway 45, Highway 16, and Highway 493 during the move. Roadway message boards will be on display Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9 to alert motorists of the upcoming move and subsequent closures."
