Volunteer fair set for Thursday

MERIDIAN —     If you enjoy making a difference and giving back to the community through volunteerism, an upcoming event is for you.

Thursday's Meridian Volunteer Fair at MSU Riley Center is designed to give those who "give back" knowledge on ways to get involved, build their resume and make a difference.

"We have so many entities in Meridian that rely so strongly on volunteers," said Dede Mogollon, executive director of the Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau.

"We wanted to provide a forum for people who want to get involved to meet up with the people who need volunteers," Mogollon said

Described as a trade show for volunteers, tables will be set up throughout the Riley Center featuring local organizations who depend on volunteers, including Habitat For Humanity, Go Green, Merrehope, Wechsler Community Center as well as others.

The event will get under way with a Best Practices Panel Discussion at 3 p.m., followed by the volunteer fair from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Participation is free and door prizes will be available.

The Meridian Volunteer Fair is sponsored by The Meridian Marketing Roundtable, a partnership between the MSU Riley Center, Meridian Main Street, Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism, the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation and the city of Meridian.

For more information, call the EMBDC at (601) 693-1306.
