Downtown Art Crawl Tuesday

MERIDIAN — Special to The Star

Children's artwork will be the featured attraction in Meridian Tuesday afternoon for the third annual Kids' Downtown Art Crawl that runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Meridian Main Street is partnering with local schools to host the event, which will take place in Dumont Plaza.

Children in grades K-6 will have their art on display in downtown businesses and are invited to tour the "art galleries" to view their work. Participating businesses will be marked by balloons and sidewalk art.

In addition to the art on display, activities at Dumont Plaza will include a petting zoo, pony rides, mechanical bull, rock climbing wall and a hands-on arts and crafts area.

The public is invited to attend the free event and view the children's art.

Art Crawl committee chair Del Keys said, "It is an honor to work with fellow educators to recognize the efforts of area school children and create greater awareness of arts education," Art Crawl Committee Chair Del Keys said. "This event is a community wide project with a wide range of participants and volunteers.  We are particularly grateful for our sponsors, who help make this event possible."

This year Bowers Auto will donate two $500 checks directly to the art department of the winning school with the best overall board in grades K-2 and 3-6.
