United Way recognizes community members

MERIDIAN —     United Way of East Mississippi presented several awards to community members for their hard work, dedication, and passion for giving back in 2013.

    Betty Lou Jones was presented with the very prestigious 2013 Al Rosenbaum Lifetime Achievement Award, according to the press release.

    "Betty Lou has played an integral role in United Way throughout the years, as well as numerous other nonprofit organizations and community service events and programs," the press release states.

    The Lifetime Achievement Award is designed to recognize those in the community who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to support United Way and its mission to improve the quality of life for all individuals and families by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. Past award recipients include Bubba Hampton, Tom Maynor, Wink and Lanelle Glover, Lamar McDonald, Nell Grissom, Tommy Dulaney, and Dr. Henry Daum.

    Susie Broadhead and Vern Lund were presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Both have made outstanding contributions to United Way’s programs and board through their tireless efforts.

    "Anderson Regional Medical Center was awarded the 2013 Community Cup Award for their tremendous campaign this year of $100,000, the most one company has raised for United Way in over a decade," the press release states.
